[ And the next day, a little after midday, Magnus makes his way to the ruins.

Unsure exactly where to meet Tim, he just takes a curious stroll around the ruined...town? Village? He isn't sure, since it's the first time he's visiting this part of the island.

What happened to this place? Who lived here before?]

[And there Tim is, hanging around at the front of the largest of the ruined buildings. It was probably a mess hall at some point, given the look to the place, but time and wear has reduced it to something a bit more ramshackle. Despite the work Tim's put into patching the walls and roof, it's still got a ways to go before it's usable as an actual establishment.]

[He's not in the sling anymore, but he's still moving on the slower side, favoring the lower half of his body when he nods at Magnus's approach.]

[It's not hard to recognize him. He's the only other person on this island with sideburns to rival Tim's.]

Magnus, right?

[ Magnus perks up when he notices the other man, raising a hand in greeting as he heads over.]

Yup. Tim, was it?

Yeah.

[He nudges the knapsack lumped at his feet and flips it open with the toe of one battered shoe.]

Got nails and a hammer. Hatchet for cutting wood. We kinda make do here.

[ Any little bit counts. He can make due! With so many people giving stuff or trading it off, he could have his own workshop in this place. ]

So, huh, you've been working on this place?

Trying to, when I got the time. Kinda hit a roadblock last month.

[After getting stabbed, beaten, and just generally slapped around, his capacity to get shit done was significantly downgraded. As it does.]

Looks like it used to be some kinda mess hall or something. I figure we could make it something like that again.

[ As Tim explains, Magnus takes a few steps "into" the building, taking in both the damage and what work Tim did on it.]

What happened to it? To this whole...ttttown?

[Tim shrugs, then winces. He really needs to get better about not doing that while he’s still healing.]

[The building interior isn’t as bad off - there are noticeable patches that Tim has been devoted to renovating - but there’s a lotta work left to go.

We don’t really know. Seems like it was a hell of a long time ago. If the Storyteller knows, they’re not talking.

[ He takes another look around, hands rested on his hips.]

It's doable, if you've got the tools. Plenty of tree's around...yeah. Yeah, this can be fixed right up.

Were you doing this all by yourself?

Pretty much, yeah.

[He is far from the strongest motherfucker on this island, nor is he particularly well-versed in architecture.]

I've been getting lumber and stuff from that compound, but I didn't wanna get anyone's hopes up in case I couldn't make any of it really come together.

Could be done easier with a couple more hands, though. Ain't gonna fix a whole town by yourself.

[ In the very least, Magnus is here to help!]

Listen, I'm totally on board with this, but I got some other big stuff I wanna get done too. It's kind of a lot for one person - hell, it's a lot for two. But we could probably get a couple more people involved. Like, with the simple stuff, at least.

Wouldn't be opposed to that. [The answer is...cautious, deliberate, and paired with a loose gesture at Tim's middle before he eases up the hem of his t-shirt to reveal the sliver of white bandage peaking out.]

I'd kinda drag you down at the moment. Word of warning.

Aw, shit, man. [ No disappointment in his tone, just simply recognizing that that sucks for Tim.

Don't worry about. Look, I got a friend that might help out if, huh, we make it worth his while. Not the building part, but at least getting, like, the wood ready and stuff.

If we make it work for other people too, we can probably get a few more people helping out. Could get this place fixed ages quicker, and a house for me and my friends, shit like that.

[ This is business Magnus right now. A rare sight! It seems Tim unlocked a secret scene. Congratulations.]

That'd...be pretty great, actually.

[He is so proud. He has never in his life been a gamer, but he is proud regardless.]

[He extricates a can of something that looks a bit like paint from his knapsack, even if he has to move a good deal slower than he would typically to do it, and holds up a brush on top of it.]

And, uh, fireworks weren't the only thing I got. It's water-resistant sealant, so the wood doesn't rot and stuff.

[ A big grin flashes on Magnus's face. This is pretty cool. This whole conversation is giving him a bunch of ideas. And if they're really stuck here for who knows how long, he's pretty sure they have more than enough time to get some cool shit done.]

I think if we all work together, we could even get this whole place up and running. A little village or a marketplace or something.

[ Though he doesn't think Taako and Lup would appreciate the competition. Or they'd probably take over the whole thing. Either way.]

[Give the guy his due - he doesn’t do things mh half measures.]

Honestly, that’s not a bad idea. We’ve had those elves running their Walmart outta the Storyteller’s temple, but I’m pretty sure they’ll be happy to have the place to themself. With the rate people keep showing up here...yeah, might be good to expand our housing options.

[ And Magnus is some sort of shop assistant? And...contractor? Something. He's part of their crew, anyway.]

Taako's-- they got magic and shit, and Taako can take care of the lumber part. Get us all ready to put the stuff together. That's a bunch of time sliced off right there.

Just dunno how I’d pay for their services.

[That strikes him as an important part of anything involving the elves. Somehow it’s not much of a shock hat Magnus is pals with them, either - there’s the same sense of bombastic lust for life that seems to encompass the elves both.]

[ That's one way to put it. If that's what people remember them by, then they're on a good week! Or people don't know them very well.]

Hmmm. Well,there's probably something you can give them. Or they could have their own spot in this place if you get it set all back up.

I could do the latter, no problem. Place would need something like a staff, anyway.

[He's gotta couple people in mind in for that already, but if it gets to be big...which, wouldn't it? It's not like there's a great deal of other venues around here.]

Yeah! They could probably use, you know, an actual building for the store.

[ Hands on his hips, Magnus nods decisively, sporting an optimistic grin.]

Yeah, we can totally get this place up and running. No problem!

Oh, thank god, [says Tim, completely unironically.] After last month - we kinda need a win, y'know? And I don't think the Storyteller's too happy with us tramping in and out of their place all the time.

[Not to mention the fact that it'd probably be in their collective interest to find a place to settle that isn't overly reliant on one very flighty and eccentric god, but he's gonna keep that little thought to himself. For now.]

Hah, yeah, I get it. [ Yep. Magnus had his own stuff to deal with after the battle - it wasn't the battle itself that got to him, he's done crazier and higher stakes, but something else - and investing in a project that is both within in wheelhouse and useful to others will do wonders to his mood and stress.]

Yeah, huh, about that guy- god- thing. Is it, like...really a god? Don't really see it do godly things.

I guess. They’re...trying, I think. They seem about as used to this as we are.

[Tim feels like he kinda arrived here used to it, but Tim is an outlier adn should not be counted. Considering this is his second stop as opposed to his first, it only makes sense.]
