We're far older than humanity, but they did end up getting routed to us after we die. I wasn't involved in the original setup of the afterlife system at all, can't say how they settled on the current dichotomy...other than the general temperaments of everyone involved. [Seems natural that demons would want to torment, and angels...he's not sure they do anything, actually, but they don't actively torment.]
