suspecteverything: (bad idea)

The demons I know look like anybody else, and they come out whenever the hell they want.

[Prompto would probably kill him if he realized Jules was referring to his grandmother.]

I come from a place where I travel through space for a living and don't even live on a damn planet. Buildings don't mean much to me.

Legally? Delivery runs between planets or stations and air support. Illegally? Doing anything I can to piss off the League without letting them capture or kill me.

What the hell's a mailman?

It's a ruling body in my system that's purpose is supposed to be to keep the rulers of each planet from behaving badly. They're supposed to protect the people and perform needed assassinations. Now they're basically a corrupt force worse than most of the rulers. Their high commander doesn't like me very much. Go figure.

Mail as in letters? Why would you need someone to deliver that? It's all electronic. You'd only need a person if you wanted to hijack someone's mail.

No shit that would be better, but life doesn't work that way. There's no guarantee you're going to get a good ruler, or a good ruler's child will end up being a good ruler too. Someone needs to stop genocidal maniacs who rule countries or hold a lot of political power. As long as there is indisputable proof that someone is committing serious crimes that threaten lives, the League has the right to remove that person to protect others. At least that was their original job.

We're more delivering aid packages and doing humanitarian work. Large shipments of goods or weapons too. [Then there's all the hijacking other ships for their shipments, but whatever...]

Definitely consider yourself lucky. Most rulers where I'm from treat their people decently, at least by their standards. Some of them are even tolerant to other races. Still, throughout the United Systems I know of at least 2 major rebellions, and that's just on the planets I know a lot about. Pretty sure one of them has been resolved.

"Let them" would be the key problem in that statement. Unless your sucky ruler, as you call it, is that bad merely because of incompetence, all of the other ones usually have enough fire power or control to pose too much of a threat for people to do anything to stop them.

Because you're not that coldblooded. Those that are would shoot anyone who gave them even a vague premonition that they might turn. And that's after they kill a few people just for petty things to set the tone that they aren't someone to mess with. I doubt you could do that even to a stranger. No chance would you be able to do it to family.

It's not any easier to understand when you've seen it all your life either.

Depends what, but generally, yeah. I'm competent.

I've only ever seen a few of them. Definitely haven't fixed one. If I had access to my link I could probably figure it out. Without that, the best I could do is use my experience with ships and try some trial and error.

[Which would probably lead to results if the technology wasn't too far behind what Jules knows.]
