[Hey, everybody, guess what? Tim's been a busy boy.]

alright 2 things

1. i got 30 flare guns. each has 4 rounds with 2 colors: red and blue. blue is if you need help. red is to tell everyone to clear out cause of serious danger. i'm at the storyteller's temple if you need one. don't need to trade anything but like i said i only have 30 so if you travel in a group and keep together you should just have 1 between you all. if you run out of flares you gotta ask ST for more.

2. who here knows how to fight. just putting it out there it might be good to have some people we all know can handle themselves if someone needs help. guard task force security group call it whatever you want itd just be damn handy to know who to ask for in a fight

It's magic. I can heal injuries and restore stamina, but I don't know about things like disease or poison.
If there's anything more details you need, I'd be fine meeting in person instead of taking up more rock space.

[Someday he'll get used to the fact that a lot of the most competent fighters here are really fucking young. It's unnerving. He's over twice the age of some of the kids here, and they can handle themselves more efficiently in a fight than he can, christ.]

That's me. [The heap of flare guns might give it away.] So you're one half of the tag-team, yeah?

[If he voiced that thought, she'd probably agree that it's a bit much. It'd be nice to not have to do any grueling battles at her age and just chill out instead, but here we are, on the verge of the sun dying.]

Yeah. [Yuka eyes the pile of guns.] Are those the flare guns you wrote about?

These are the ones.

[He picks one of them up, demonstrating the pull of the trigger. The barrel is empty to start with, but the mechanism still translates even without ammunition.]

Pretty simple. Just load, aim, and fire. Shoot into the air, and you get kind of a firework signal.

If they aren't all spoken for, I'll take one. I'd like to be able to help give a warning in the case of serious danger.

[It seems like a bad time to say "I've never fired a gun". How hard can it be, when your target is just sort of generally the sky?]

Sure thing. That's what they're here for.

[But let it not be said that Tim is irresponsible when it comes to gun safety. He knows about as much as one could expect the odd layperson to know, but he has the benefits of growing up in Alabama. He's seen more drunk kids shoot cans off brick walls and take potshots at birds than most.]

[He holds up the gun with a lift of his eyebrows.]

You ever fire something like this before?

It's illegal to own guns in Japan. I've never even seen one in person before.

[Okay, the EXACT details of the laws are a bit more complicated than that, but it isn't something she's researched before, so close enough.]

Well, it's not your standard type of gun. Flares aren't bullets.

[He snaps the barrel open to indicate where one loads the cartridge, and holds up said cartridge for inspection - definitely bigger than your average lead round.]

Can definitely be used as a weapon in a pinch, but I wouldn't rely on that. It won't do much besides startle whoever you're shooting. Maybe burn them if you're lucky.

[Yuka looks intently at both the cartridge and the gun as Tim snaps the barrel open.]

Even so, I imagine it probably isn't safe to point it at other people.

So, load the cartridge in, point it upwards, then pull the trigger. Is that all there is to it?

Pretty much. Red's for "get the hell outta here," and blue's for calling for help.

[The cartridges themselves are pretty helpfully shaded in both colors.]

But, yeah, I wouldn't point it anyone unless you for sure want them outta your way.

[He clicks the thing back together and hands it over, along with its four rounds.]

Real firearms tend to have a safety that you gotta click on or off. These don't, 'cause you need to load 'em beforehand and they only fire one at a time.

[Yuka takes the gun with almost almost comical care. Guns are scary!!]

All right, thanks. Was there anything else you needed to know about our skills or abilities? It seemeed like you had a lot of questions for everyone.

Which is weird, 'cause I'm not usually the question guy.

[That's...a completely stupid and bizarre thing to say to someone who doesn't have the context to his life, which is really for the best. No one needs context on his life. Christ.]

Oh! I think I met them back on my first day, in the desert. They were trying to make friends with a monster.

That'd be the one. [In the desert. He remembers them in the desert. They were...]

[They really were the future of humans and monsters. Insight into the person they are, when you scrape away the self-destructive downward slide they so favor - cunning and kind and brave and brilliant and smiling without needing to polish the edge into a weapon. Knowing Chara, they probably found a reason to hate it once they set foot off that part of the island.]

[They find reason to hate most things about themself, given the chance.]

I'd talk to them, if you could. They make lists of stuff like that. Things that people can do.

Really? I wouldn't have guessed that they were the type to do something like that.

[More of a fending-for-theirself type, based on her one interaction with them, but there's lots of sides to that weird kid.]

[To that, Tim carefully shrugs. He's not sure what Chara wants to walk away being known as, other than someone far less generous than they are in practice. At this point, after the clusterfuck that was the last Storytelling, it's hard to know for sure.]
