[Lup-Net] Datapad Discovery 7/17

Gladio, Prompto, and I have been exploring a rather large square of area near the eastern coast, just below where the land starts to widen, over the last 4 days.  There are quite a few buildings, the most important being a secondary lab marked as 'Beta.'  We've found a fair number of robots here, much like have been found in other places, along with some tools and an old computer.  From what I've been told, there is nothing of use that can be salvaged from the computer, unfortunately.  On the other hand, the datapad we found on the other side of the building has proven more useful.

For those of you who know me, you are aware I'm unable to write down what I've found, though I do have a device that will allow me to read what the datapad has on it.  If someone would be so kind as to add this to the information we already have, I will be in your debt.

[Ignis pauses for a few moments to let anyone willing to transcribe get ready.  He then begins to read the below in a slow, but steady voice.  It takes sometime as he is actually translating it into braille to read back, but it gets the job done.

There are more buildings down to the south of the area, but we have been here for 4 days now and it is long passed time we left this place for a while.  Anyone who is looking for a new place to pick up there search from, please considering picking up here.  The three of us will be spending a lot of time at our cottage over the next few days should you want more details on the location.

I'm definitely willing to take a look. Shouldn't take very long.

[He hasn't had the chance to play around with technology in ages, so he's really looking forward to this even if it doesn't turn anything up.]

Would you like to come over now then? I have the datapad with me at the cottage. Once you've done all the messing with it you can, we can talk about the location of the computer in more detail.

[But, you know, give him a few minutes to be a good host and pull some food and drink together. He's just that kind of dork.]

((OOC: I'm guessing he won't find anything else on the pad even though he can infiltrate the entire system?))

I'll be waiting outside near the fire pit. The cottage isn't too far from the mana pool so it won't be hard to find.

(OOC: Unfortunately, that's right. The datapad is working just a smidgen better than the computer in that it lets us see anything at all. Otherwise, it's totally fried. I dunno if there is even enough left of the system for him to get into by the sounds of things.)

[He doesn't even respond to that and simply shows up when he gets there. Ignis was right though. It hadn't been hard to find.]

[Ignis looks up with a smile when he hears Dagger approach and waves the man to take a seat next to him. The datapad is already resting on one of the logs used for seating while Ignis himself is working with some food in a few bowls.]

Shion copied down everything that was on the datapad, so you're free to try whatever you can think of on it. We've won't lose what is there even if it does give out completely.

Is it that unstable?

[Anything he's going to attempt to do won't be any harder than simply turning the device on. His infiltration won't feel like infiltration to the machine. It will just accept him as part of itself.]

I'm afraid so. I was honestly surprised it survived the trip back here. Even now, I half expect it to be blank when I hand it to someone.

[Obviously, he can't check before he gives it away, and because of that, each time he hands it over, he braces to hear some version of 'But Ignis, there's nothing here!']

That's the main reason I wanted someone to copy down the information so quickly. Summarizing it wouldn't be hard, but there are quite a few details that may prove invaluable later. I was worried about losing them.

You did that already, I'm guessing?

[If he hadn't, Jules could do it in a split second once he got into the data. His own link was partially fried, but the text features seemed alright.]

[Ignis nods.]

There is at least one copy, though you are more than welcome to make another if you wish. It never hurts to have backups.

[People leave, technology freaks out, everyone has weird conversations all over the rock that is suppose to be for warnings and discoveries. You know.]

If you want me to I can. It wouldn't be hard.

[He probably wouldn't look at it at all, but there's more than enough room on his link for extraneous stuff.]

If it's not too much effort, would you then? The more copies we have of this material the better. We never know what may happen to the other versions of it.

[While he believes Shion's copy will be safe unless the boy is sent away, he's less sure about any copy left on the Rock. A lot of activity happens there and it could be lost at any time.]

No problem.

[He goes quiet as he lets his mind slip into the system. It's a simple process that doesn't require much effort. He finds the note right away and mentally copies the code. Once that's done he mentally shifts out of the datapad and connects with his link to deposit and transfer the code there.]

Done. Now to see if there's anything else on this thing.

So quickly?

[Ignis is impressed and suddenly has a hundred questions he'd like to ask, but he makes himself be patient so that he doesn't interrupt Dagger's hunt for other information. He has no idea how the man is doing what he's doing and the last thing he wants to do is break Dagger's concentration when he doesn't know what the consequences of that action may be.]

When a machine thinks you're a part of it you don't have to try very hard to get what you want. It's all right there.

[Ignis is right about how damaged the electronics are. He can tell that without digging very deeply. While he's still willing to try, he is a little bit worried about what might end up happening once he's goes digging around.]

[Becoming part of a machine sounds like some kind of fantasy to Ignis. How does one even do that? Is there a danger of getting lost in the machine, never able to return? How much risk is added when the machine is damaged?]

Please don't put yourself in danger digging around too much. I highly doubt anyone here has the skills needed to bring you back out in one piece.

Shouldn't be dangerous. Just might give me a headache if it's really screwed up.

[Then again, he's not really sure what could happen. He's never tried to retrieve information from a damaged computer before.]

[Ignis has a feeling Dagger is downplaying the danger, but the man knows his skills the best. Hopefully, a headache is the worst they will have to deal with if they have to deal with anything at all.]

I'll be quiet while you work. Let me know if you need anything.

[It's kind of hard to downplay the danger of something when you don't know how dangerous that something actually is. Headaches are the norm for overusing his abilities, so he's just going to go with it.

Jules allows his mind to slip into the computer again and this time followed any connection available to him. It didn't take long to determine that most of them were blocked off. He would try to enter one only to feel like he was getting put through a wormhole in a ship spinning out of control. It definitely isn't a good feeling.]

[Since Ignis can't watch Dagger for signs of something going wrong, he focuses on listening instead, hands folded loosely in his lap. It's probably fortunate for them both that he is as patient as he is. That way, he doesn't get bored and Dagger doesn't have to feel rushed.

Will he find anything? Honestly, it will be more than a minor miracle if he does, Ignis can't help but think. They really could use a miracle right now, though, since Umui has proven to be one island that doesn't want to let loose of its secrets very easily.]

[Dagger hit a road block pretty quickly, but he kept trying to push through it regardless. He's never hit a road block in any electronic system before. This system doesn't even have security and he's stuck. Never one to give up, he keeps pushing.

His ability allows him to basically become a part of the system he's in, so the further he goes into the twisted remains of the computer the more the twisting impacts his head. It quickly feels like he's being ripped apart and twisted around as well.]

[The longer the silence goes on, the more concerned Ignis becomes. It's either a good thing and Dagger found something, or a bad thing and he's in trouble. Unfortunately, Ignis can't help but think if it was a good thing, Dagger would have given him some kind of notice by now.

Quietly, Ignis moves closer to the man. Part of him is tempted to touch Dagger's arm, but he doesn't want to startle him too much. Instead, he chooses to speak softly first.]

Enough, my friend. I think it's time to come out now.

[Dagger heard that comment and mentally growled, "No shit. That's what I've been trying to do." Luckily that thought stayed in his head as he tried to extricate himself from the destroyed electronics. It takes a little bit longer, but he finally manages it. The second he's free he drops his head into his hands, trying to bear the pain.]

Titana rael. That hurts. How'd that thing get so messed up?

Time and exposure to elements electronics probably shouldn't be exposed to is my best guess. There were flowers all over and the building wasn't in the best of shape itself.

[Ignis picks up a small cup and holds it out in Dagger's direction.]

Here. It's just water, but hopefully it will help clear your head a little.

[He takes the cup and sniffs at it suspiciously. Even with the pounding headache roaring in his head, his paranoia about someone poisoning his food or drink is still there. Habit makes him check. Normally he wouldn't dare risk it even after a quick smell test, but the water will definitely help.]
