need a favor

Hey, so, I need a favor or a few. Whether you're going to fight to defend the sun or not. It would be a good idea to pool favors together for first aid kits and better light sources.

With enough favors, we can get enough and have some to spare. I'm aiming to get as much supplies as I can so count me all in. - Keith

Do we really have to fight and defend the sun though?

No. You could just go to the temple.

Getting supplies is just to prepare. We don't know exactly what is going to happen.

I meant, in general. Is the sun really being attacked and killed? Or is this just an I terpretation of the shortest days of a year? Is it really the sun that is in danger or is it us because of the darkness?

We're all in danger. Us, the sun, and the Jormun. Check with them if you don't believe me. Their elders can tell you what they remember about the last siege by the creatures from the depths.

I think it would be wise to gather food, as much as we can. I am capable of hunting, and I know of a few edible plants. Would that help you feel more prepared, as well?

Way ahead of you. I've been moving between Chol and Monsun to get some hunting done. ...just be careful if you go to the lush side of Monsun. Messes with your head.

Fine. The sun has a cycle, it lives, dies, and then gets reborn.
When it's in the rebirth phase, it will nestle in the center of Chol island. We'll have a week of darkness.

The Jormun came and set up defenses around its birthplace because a bunch of really nasty creatures from the ocean depths are going to come up and try to destroy it. They want it as cold and dark as possible. They're vulnerable to heat and light. The Jormun are of the sea themselves, but we don't have to fight besides them if we don't want to.

Storyteller opened the temple and promised people will be safe. They just can't keep everyone fed so, you're on your own for that.

And some people hunt a giant hog across the frozen land and kill it to make sure the sun comes back.

This is a thing that happens every year I assume, so shouldn't things work out as they must? A week of darkness is better than 67 days.

I did read it, but isn't it sensible to tho k about it deeper? I know this is a fantastical magical world, but, will the sun really have the potential to die and never return? It's strange to think about.

The Jormun are pretty willing to trade so long as I pull my own weight. I've been spending most of my time with them learning what I can.

Their weapons are really cool.

Yes, it's strange. But every bit of intell I've gotten here supports what they're saying. It could be the sun is a high-tech device that needs to recharge every so many years.

We don't know. We only know that they're preparing for a siege. No one does that lightly.

It depends on perspective. Also, I have no doubt about the danger. But, do we know that the sun is truly in danger? To find out we would need to risk it, and the potential that it is makes the risk too high, so no one will do it. But, doesn't it feel like the sort of thing that would be fine? Otherwise how did it survive it's cycles before? There can't have always been someone to defend it.

I've only seen their sickles. They look like they're built out of various parts of the sea?? The sickle is light, but it's slick. If it gets broken it can be rebuilt in sea water.

True, but it has someone to defend it now. We're all going to find out just how much danger is out there when it goes dark for a week.

That doesn't answer the question on whether it is truly needed though. But, regardless of the sun, I have no doubts it will be dangerous. The dark is the most dangerous of all.

In fact, if you think about it, the sun slowly dying, and the world going dark, is like the world falling into despair. Slowly enveloping the light of the world, but, the spark of Hope will always live, and again it will brighten and beat back the darkness!
