An expensive novelty or automated workforce. AI's are around, but they're mostly just used to do tasks people don't want to do anymore if you can afford one. Or be a gimmick to sell technology. Like... we have one called Cortana that helps you like a search engine does, or Alexa that is supposed to be like a very fancy calendar, music player, or shopping list keeper.

Nope. If they get too sapient, they're destroyed by those who are afraid Skynet will happen, which is a fictional thing. People watching Terminator a few too many times.

I don't understand why they would be afraid. I am someone who thinks that as long as they're willing to work beside us, why not let them be sentient? Make them be equal with us as much as artificial beings can be.

Synthetic beings are equal. They deserve the same rights as organics.

(Not that she seems to even remotely disagree, but the statements "as long as they're willing to work beside us" "as much as artificial beings can be" leads them to believe she may lack full understanding of this fact.)

Oh, I totally agree with that, but they might be limited rights wise just because they aren't organic. Which really sucks, because what does ones birth or creation matter? If they're not hurting anyone just let them live as freely as a human.

[And it could be done peacefully, too.]

Sadly, I think the world I am from will never see them as anything but servants. It really sucks.
