I've got a...uh, a tiny axe thing, so we can get them scooped out for now?

[They're not banking on Knight showing up, but they're pretty sure their friend will be interested...and their sword thing is knife-size.]

I found it in some caves, but those're...uh. You really don't wanna go in there. I think we found most everything we could use there already, anyway.

[The Drifter doesn't bother with the stones very often, largely because the noise that emits is automated and robotic and doesn't sound the least bit like them, issuing loudly:]

It's a vegetable! They're big and orange and hollow on the inside, and people carve them to make faces for Halloween!

It's, um, kind of a tradition, I guess? It's not magic or anything, just something fun to do!

Really? That'd be great! You can carve a pumpkin too, if you want?

Oh fuck yeah! I actually have a bunch of, like, little ones? On account of some people are literally smaller than a pumpkin to begin with. [A beat.] Oh, I should've asked for glitter. I have paint though.

Aw yeah! I really wanted the big ones, but the tiny ones last way longer! ...can you even carve the little guys? I don't think there'd be enough room...oh, uh, I've got markers if you need it for those ones!

You can carve them it's just not great if you want a super complicated design or whatever, you know? Easier to just decorate them with markers, probably.

I don't think there's a small enough knife around anyway...you'd need one of the little special ones from the kits.

[She can find the knife and/or someone with one for this kid, but she's curious and wants to know w h y.]

No, to make decorations and stuff out of! I mean, I know you can cook pumpkins, and you can roast the seeds but I dunno how to do that here, but it's October and you GOTTA make Jack-o-Lanterns!

How do you make them?

[Excuse you everything here is PERFECTLY self-explanatory!!]

You open up the top of the pumpkin first, and scoop out all the goop inside, then you carve holes in the front for eyes and a mouth and put a candle inside so it lights up at night!

[She needs to confer with the people who have knives or just borrow one for the cause if no one's around. Ever heard of apple lanterns?? That's the future.]

That sounds fun! Very fun! I'm going to cut some food right now.
