[Now that everything has calmed down, Seto can ask a question that's been rattling around in his brain. So there's a new message on the Rock of Communication in messy handwriting.]

Hi. I hope this is okay to write on.

Is there a way to talk to someone who can't talk? I don't think something like that is in my world, so I don't know if there's something like that.

[Well there was a way to talk to someone without words in Seto's world but he's not touching that with a ten-foot pole.]

I'd like to learn if there is a way so I can talk to them more. I'll be here too sometimes if you want to talk in person. I have a blue jacket on.

[And indeed Seto can be found by the rock, if anyone would rather speak in person.]

[Ren's helping!! By drawing a bunch of cat faces around Seto's name because he forgot to do that and she's here to pick up the slack. Cats are the solution to all problems and it's scientifically proven people respond to requests with cat imagery. It's just science. She knows. Get with the program, Seto.]

Who do you want to talk to?

[She knows two people who fit that description and both of them are great.]

[The message is out of his hands now that it's on the rock, so it's up to Ren to make it pretty. And cats are universally pretty, right?

They said their name was the Drifter.

[A weird name but it's also a really cool one too.]

[Was that drawing signs? That's a kind of language too?]

[It's fine Drifter. Seto will ask for a name when he remembers that's a thing.]

You know how to make your hands talk? Can people learn how to talk like that?

There's sign language, there's also writing and using the stones.

[And true to Seto's word, he can be found waiting by the temple. Much like up on the island where that giant machine had appeared, the temple had Seto's complete attention.

He really wants to explore it but he said he'd wait. Seto wasn't as experienced as Ren when it came to waiting but he was going to stay put.]

You can use the stones too?

[Guess who was under the impression those stones were audio only? This guy.]

I'm pretty sure you can focus thoughts at them and they will send that to the other person.

[Whoops, here's exactly who you've been wanting to talk to, who has been talking to you this whole time. Amazing!!]

[They're distinctive from the start, and they recognize the boy's distinctive blue jacket - both from his announcement and a familiarity with him out of necessity. The same color as their skin, which he saw entirely too much of when Lup hauled them from the Water.]

[Nonetheless, they lift one gloved hand in a wave, tugging the fabric of the cloth around their face a little more securely into place.]

[The closest thing Seto could think of was that weird thing called a "phone" but he's pretty sure that wasn't with your thoughts alone.]

Isn't it? With such a method of communication misunderstanding would be almost impossible.

You're taking to a kid who was born after the apocalypse. He has zero idea what that is. Not that it stops Seto from trying to see if his hands talk, but no dice.]

I don't think my world has it. Or my hands aren't the right kind. But I'd still like to learn. - Seto

[It is amazing and doubly so when Seto replays the conversation in his head and realizes he never asked Not be person's name. Whoops. Names may still be a thing after the apocalypse but Seto has yet to get in the habit of asking without any prompting of some sort.

But it's probably for the best this way. Seto returns the Drifter's wave with one of his own and a smile.]

Hi Drifter. How are you?

[It's uh...asking without directly asking if they're okay now. Between the two of them, the Drifter had been the worst off.]

[It would be disingenuous not to acknowledge it, and so they do. If it is reluctant, it does not show. They simply incline their head in solemn greeting - the absolute portrait of calm to contrast the unpolished, uncontrolled thing they were on Ai'tuoh.]

[It's a shame that Wade isn't able to see that hand inspection, because he'd probably think Seto was adorable. Stupid, but adorable. Like a dumb puppy.

Regardless, it's that statement of "my hands aren't the right kind" that endears Wade enough to write:]

[Bouncing back really was the only thing the both of them could do. If Seto hadn't, he wouldn't have ever met any of his friends back home. And there were probably people waiting for the Drifter on the islands, right?

So yeah. It's not a surprise.]

I found Ren and Crow again so I'm okay.

[Because that's all that really matters in the end.]

They're both okay too.

[Since he knows the Drifter knows Ren and all.]

[Taking things at face value is totally valid Wade. But yeah, that's a pretty good way of describing Seto.]

Sure! I can meet you by the temple?

[He'll remember to ask for Wade's name...eventually.]
